Katherine DeLee McGraw
|
Katherine, who also went by Kattie, was number three child of seven. She was born 11 November 1883 in Centreville, Amite, Mississippi to Joseph and Elizabeth Miller McGraw. Kattie had a challenging and hard life. In appearance, she had a small frame and weighed about 130 pounds. Her eyes were hazel; and in her younger years, her hair was dark. She had a lot of determination and was a hearty lady most of her life. One of her interests was gardening and flowers. She raised the prettiest flowers and always had something blooming indoors and out.
Later in life she was known as Granny and lived in a small white frame house south of Nora and Bilbo (her son) about two miles east of Liberty on the old Gillsburg Road. The grandchildren took turns spending the night with her so that she wouldn't be alone. She was active and faithful in attending the Mormon church. On 6 September 1972, she died in Centreville, twenty-eight years after her husband, John James. She is buried beside him in the Blalock Cemetery in Liberty, Amite, Mississippi. |
